Scientific Method

In science we have been looking at what the scientific method. One of our assignments was to create and finish a flow chart showing how the scientific method is performed. Today I have learnt how to create my own scientific method and showcase it in my learning. I found this fairly easy to do as I am familiar with this type of work and what to do.

Area and Perimeter

This week we have been looking at ways we are able to display our learning on what we know about area and perimeter. Unique and I have created a animation on google slides explaining what and how to work out the area and perimeter of a rectangle or square. I think we have worked well on this animation, however we have not finished as we did not finish the screencastify that was to go with this but that is ok. I found this task semi easy yet hard

All about me...

Kia Ora my name is Shakaia and I am a junior year 9 student that is currently  attending Bay Of Islands College. From as far as I know I am full Maori. I have about 6 siblings 3 boys and 3 girls, I am the oldest. I like to say I am good at playing Netball. I enjoy spending “quality time” with my siblings though they can be a bit annoying. I have a lot of challenges one being I am a very terrible writer and I cannot stay on task. My goals for this year is to get outside of my comfort zone and just have fun, also to be super chill.  My main three goals for this year is to make a lot of friends that are very chill, have fun all year and try my best no matter the cause. My hopes for the future are to make sure that I stay at school until I finish my whole 5 years at college.

Probability - Using Tables

This morning we have been looking at how to use tables to work out probability questions. So technically we have to in vision  we have rolled two dice we were given questions such as what are all of the possible outcomes or P (even total)?

Reflection - I have learnt that you can use a table to help you work out how to find out all of the possible outcomes when using probability questions.

Tree Diagram

Today we have been learning about how a tree diagram works and how to use it in maths. We use tree diagrams in maths to show all of the possible outcomes in a question. For example if I had 3 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and 3 pairs of shoes, how many possible outcomes will I have to create a outfit to wear? An easy way to find this out is to time 3 x 3 which is 9 x 2 which is 18 so altogether I would have 18 possible outfits to choose from to wear. I think I have learnt more about tree diagrams and have gained more of an understanding.

Kiwiana

This term in social studies we have been learning about Kiwiana.  During the period of learning about this subject I have missed majority of what we have learnt. I don't really know what Kiwiana means to me because I cant really explain how something works or get the right words out in a sentence that makes sense. In class we have learnt a lot about Kiwiana, we even went on class trips to the Treaty Grounds (which I didn't attend) to learn about our culture a little bit more than we had already known. Which I suspect was a very great experience from what I have heard. This is what Kiwiana means to me I guess.

My refection - I had learnt more about my culture than I knew about before which is surprising for me.

Probability

This week we have been learning about probability. I have not learnt as much as others in the class on this topic, however I have learnt some new yet challenging words related to probability. These words consist such as possible, certain, equal and much more. On Tuesday we have made a word art picture using the words we have learnt about this week. As the week goes on I will learn more about probability and will form more of an understanding.

Mathematics Vocabulary

This Week we have been learning about different words associated with our topic on fractions. These words mostly consisted of improper, simplify and mixed fractions. During this period of learning about fraction we have been finding new ways to present our fraction work and vocabulary. I have learnt what and how mixed fractions work. I found this challenging but who doesn't like a good challenge?

Maths: Decimals

This term we have been looking at how to divide, multiply, finding the value of and 1 and 2 dp (decimal place.) I have learnt a various amount of facts and ways to figure out hard and challenging questions. By this I mean breaking the question down and going through it in my own time, or simply just giving it a go even if I haven't quite got the right answer or idea. Usually I would have given up, but instead I ask my peers of teacher for some help. My favourite part about decimals is finding the value of decimals, because all you have is if you have come across a question like what is the value of 8 in 12.68 it would be in the hundredths. It is just like the tens, hundreds and so on.

I find decimals very fun and a great way to give yourself a challenge if you are up for it. I have struggled with answering certain questions, however now I am much more confident when a question like this is thrown my way.

My Term 1 In Maths So Far

MY Term 1 In Maths So Far...

1. My Progress in maths has really improved from when I had first started at Bay Of Islands College. I feel like I know more about this subject and I have archived a higher standard.

2. I like learning about new things that I either never knew about or re capping about the the work we are doing through the lesson.

3. I would like to do more booklet work in the future because I actually really enjoy doing work by hand, not by computer. ( Though a mix of both is great)

4. I need to improve more on my shape naming skills and moving on to work I don't know how to do.
